For 8th consecutive year, Bernardino Gómez Aritmendi, General Manager of BanSabadell Seguros Generales, Vida y Pensiones, has delivered a cheque amounting to €27,000 to Doctor Laureano Molins, president of the Association Against Cancer of Barcelona, to collaborate in two different projects: “Proyecto Integral a Mujer con Cáncer”, [Comprehensive Project for Women with Cancer], which strives to improve the lives of women with cancer and their families with emotional and social support, physiotherapy, nutrition and medical guidance; and the project “Cáncer de próstata localizado: ¿qué tratamiento escoger?” [Localised Prostate Cancer: What Treatment is Best?], led by Doctor Montse Ferrer, which compares therapeutic options for localised prostate cancer, considering both more traditional and the most innovative methods, and will develop a tool to assist in shared decision-making.
Support for projects that make a difference
This initiative is part of the sustainability strategy of Sabadell Seguros, where its “Insurance with a cause” project strives to move towards a more sustainable economy, linking each of its products to social and environmental causes. Specifically, it incorporates the cause for health and quality of life, linked to the Life Care life insurance.
Bernardino Gómez Aritmendi, general manager of Sabadell Seguros, states that “Prevention and early treatment of cancer is at the heart of our collaboration with AECC research to improve our society. We have also been adapting our products to be able to support ongoing prevention with additional check-up and wellness services, and, in the event that the disease is detected, our serious illness coverage allows our clients to have an additional amount of money at that time to cover expenses.”
Cancer in figures: a growing challenge
Spain will detect almost 300,000 new cases of cancer in 2025. People diagnosed with cancer and their families must be cared for, not only when they are diagnosed and while receiving treatment, but also while being reintegrated back into their day-to-day lives. The Barcelona Association Against Cancer also goes to great lengths to minimise women’s emotional and psychological changes, to facilitate their access to social resources and to boost their self-esteem and empowerment. Thanks to collaborations such as Sabadell Seguros since 2018, it has been offering women with cancer psychological and social care, oncological physiotherapy and self-care, leisure and free time activities and medical-health advice.
The impact of the collaboration on women with cancer
Dr. Laureano Molins, president of the Association Against Cancer of Barcelona: “In the province of Barcelona, around 15,000 women were diagnosed with cancer in 2024. In addition to working to achieve the goal of 70% survival by 2030, it is inherent in our vocation to accompany patients and their families throughout the entire disease process. Collaborations such as those with Sabadell Seguros help us to continue and improve our patient care programmes, especially for women with cancer.”
