Banco Sabadell is joining the 10th edition of the European Cybersecurity Month #CyberSecMonth
Once again, the European Cybersecurity Month is being held in October. This is an outreach campaign – reaching its 10th edition this year – that is jointly organised by various institutions of the European Union, its member states and the EU Cybersecurity Agency with the aim of fostering and strengthening cybersecurity in the Union as a whole. This year, the scheduled activities are largely focused on two of the most alarming risks at the moment: phishing, which will be the focus of the programme of events from 3 to 16 October, and ransomware, which will be the focus of the activities from 17 to 30 October.
Just like last year, the campaign’s slogan is “Stop, Think, Connect. Cyber Security is a Shared Responsibility.” In total, more than 290 activities have been submitted and will take place in 11 European countries, involving hundreds of public and private institutions that have signed up to the initiative. Several of these activities are taking place in Spain. To find out more about them, visit the ECSM website.
Once again, Banco Sabadell is joining this initiative, which fosters greater awareness of the need to keep our devices secure. Our bank relies on tools for analysing and detecting fraudulent transactions through our digital channels, in real time, based on artificial intelligence systems and models of operational, biometric and device behaviour. We also actively participate in different anti-fraud groups and national and international forums where relevant information is shared on the techniques most used by fraudsters, resulting in initiatives to protect customers.
However, maintaining optimal levels of #Cybersecurity is something we must all actively participate in, internalising and putting into practice a series of basic protection rules, among which the following stand out:
- Remember to have active and up-to-date antivirus software on all devices.
- Do not open emails (most importantly, do not click on any links) or text messages that you are not expecting, and even if you are, try to validate them by another means before clicking or accessing them.
- Do not share your online banking passwords with anyone.
- Do not share the same device to access online banking with more than one person, as this makes it difficult to detect the person’s biometric pattern and reduces protection.
- If you receive a notification from your bank about a suspicious online banking access and this was not you, report it to your bank immediately.
- If you receive a request for a signature or a notification of a transaction (transfer or card purchase) that you did not initiate, notify your bank immediately.
- Check the message sent by your bank to sign off on a transaction, or the screen you access to obtain the signature key.
- Check the amount and destination of the transfer or card purchase: if it is not correct, refrain from accessing and/or signing off on it, and notify your bank immediately.
In all these situations, time is a determining factor: the sooner you are notified, the more likely you are to improve your protection.
