Be wary when getting emails from unknown senders, and if they include attachments, do not access or download them.

  • Every device you use, whether at home or at work, as well as the tools or apps installed in them must be up to date with the latest version operating system available. In addition, make sure that you have antivirus and antimalware tools installed and that are updated.
  • Make periodical backup copies of your information and make sure they can be restored.
  • Use strong passwords to access the different services you use, whether they be apps, your email, social media or Online Banking. It is advisable to have second factor authentication enabled to access these apps and your social media.
  • Be especially careful about phone calls and notifications you get from instant messaging apps, text messages or social media.
  • Avoid connecting to unfamiliar public Wi-Fi networks if you are going to access your online banking or share confidential information.
  • Always surf secure websites which feature the padlock icon and start with ‘https:’ and, if possible, use private or incognito modes.
  • Do not enter sensitive information into unsecured websites (http), nor download files from them.
  • Although an https website (with a padlock) means that the information transferred through it is protected, always remember to check how you came across it.
  • Only download apps from official markets.
