Nerea Luis, consultant and PhD in Computer Science, attended the Sabadell Forum’s DisruptIA Cycle, organised by Banco Sabadell’s Analytics and Artificial Intelligence team to discuss how artificial intelligence is being rolled out in Spanish companies, some of their challenges, as well as emerging trends.

The contributor to TVE‘s science programme Órbita Laika described the boom in generative artificial intelligence over the last year as a phenomenon that should not be seen as spontaneous, but rather as part of a process that began in 2017. As Nerea Luis pointed out, that was the year when companies started investing in cloud computing technologies for data and information storage. Since then, AI has continued to evolve, culminating in the recent proliferation of generative AI ecosystems such as ChatGPT, Copilot and DeepSeek, among others, which have quickly gained popularity.

The challenge of integrating AI into organisations

Generative AI’s emergence is starting to take hold in companies, although, as Nerea Luis says, “it’s still in its early stages”. However, she warns that “spending on AI is about to increase significantly,” which will bring about changes in the way we work, how we add value to our organisations as professionals, and so on.

One of the adjustments we will have to make with AI is learning how to delegate tasks or collaborate with artificial intelligence systems to become more efficient and perform better. This shift in responsibilities could lead to a certain standardisation of language or the way things are communicated, for example in digital content creation. “In the coming years, we are going to see AI give everything a very similar tone. “There are certain things,” added Nerea Luis, “that we are destined to delegate, as happens with every technological advance, but it will also be down to us to know how far that process goes. That’s why I prefer to talk about collaboration. This isn’t about giving AI everything so it can do it for you. We have to see what artificial intelligence can offer us, be clear about our criteria and, obviously, the company’s criteria.
