The idea of commemorating the importance of water across the world was first discussed at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development held in Rio de Janeiro in 1992. For this reason, and since 1993, World Water Day has been held on 22 March every year, with the aim of raising awareness on the importance and need to make good use of this essential and scarce resource.

This year, its slogan is ‘The importance of water’ with the purpose of remembering the importance of fresh water, which, far from what one might think, 2.2 billion people still cannot access to this today. In this regard, Objective No. 6 of the Sustainable Development Goals created by the United Nations Organisation, strives for ‘Clean water and sanitation for all by 2030’. This is because, despite seeing progress in expanding access to safe drinking water and sanitation in recent years, many people do not have access to these basic services, such as safe drinking water and basic handwashing facilities.

At Banco Sabadell we are aware of the importance of making good use of this key resource; which is why we have drawn a list of 6 actions to foster responsible and more efficient water use. Please note:

  1. Turn off the tap when you are not using the water: Do so even if it is only for a few seconds.
  2. Save the water that comes out while you are waiting for it to warm up: You can use it to water plants or cook.
  3. Use buckets to collect rainwater: It is lime-free and can be used to clean your car or the windows.
  4. Only turn on the dishwasher and washing machine when they are full and use low-consumption or ECO wash cycles.
  5. Use a dual-flush toilet cistern, since one of the largest water losses occurs during this process. If you don’t have a dual-flush cistern, you can place an object in the cistern to reduce the volume of water that is flushed.
  6. Take care of the pipes and taps in your home to prevent dripping, cracking or leakage. This will prevent water waste and moisture damage.
