He will replace César González-Bueno who will step down from his role at the bank by mutual agreement, as both parties have agreed that now is the optimal time to make the transition.

The bank's chairman, Josep Oliu, highlighted "the changes that César González-Bueno has driven over the last five years have delivered record results and multiplied the value of Banco Sabadell's shares by more than 12 times - the highest valuation among IBEX companies in this period and also the highest among European banks."
"The Board of Directors appointed González-Bueno for his proven track record of leadership, innovation and transformation," said Oliu, who stressed that "he has far exceeded both the Board’s expectations and those of the market, both in terms of the depth of the transformation undertaken and the pace at which it has been delivered."
