Today, 5 December, is #VolunteerDay, a United Nations initiative that has been held since 1985. One of its many goals has been raising awareness among governments, companies, and institutions on the importance of their collaboration with those who want to launch initiatives in connection with this. Banco Sabadell collaborates with and fosters this type of activities among all the people who are part of the entity. Today is the best day to remember some of the main activities.
Through Volunteer Day, the goal is to thank volunteers not only for the work they carried out in their collaboration with the UN around the world, but also all those people who, altruistically, work by contributing their time and talent to all the NGOs and entities that work to help the disadvantaged and build a better world together.
In addition, we strive to remind governments and companies, once a year, of the great importance that their collaboration with those people or employees who propose initiatives in this direction can have. Banco Sabadell has been working towards this for years now. Every year, hundreds of bank employees actively participate in a wide range of solidarity activities. Sometimes, they are proposed by the employees themselves. Other times, they are fostered by the bank or the Banco Sabadell Foundation, as a result of the relationships we maintain with a number of different entities.
Among these initiatives, which you will find detailed in this article, we could highlight:
- Various activities to foster employability among groups who have difficulty accessing the job market.
- Programmes to improve financial literacy among young people.
- Numerous initiatives to raise funds that are subsequently donated to NGOs or charities.
- Educational programmes to reduce the ‘digital divide’ in certain age groups or social classes.
- Blood and plasma donation campaigns within our corporate centres.
- Female talent development programmes to collaborate with equality objectives, especially in companies’ top management positions.
- Participation in various programmes to help NGOs and civic entities so that they can improve their internal organisation and, in turn, their effectiveness.
2022 Volunteer Day at Banco Sabadell, in collaboration with ‘La Casa de Carlota’
This year – just like every year – a number of initiatives have been organised at the bank with a three-fold goal in mind:
- Thanking our volunteers for the great work they do
- Encouraging all those interested in this type of activity to join in on anything they find interesting
- Taking advantage of the event to collaborate with some solidarity initiative
Given the fact we are convinced that this type of activity is part of the ‘heart of our project’, some time ago we asked our volunteers to send in hearts drawn by them or by a friend or family member. Using this material, we commissioned the La Casa de Carlota design studio to create a series of materials on the activity of the social projects it collaborates on. This design studio is known for being a trailblazer when it comes to including people with some type of intellectual disability in its creative team.
Banco Sabadell celebrates International Volunteer Day by saying ‘thank you’ to all the people who get involved in this type of initiative on a daily basis. Thank you both to those who collaborate with the initiatives supported or fostered by our organisation as well as – obviously – to those who collaborate in thousands of initiatives around the world, often in particularly difficult conditions.
And, once again, we are also reasserting our commitment and willingness to continue collaborating in this type of initiatives.
