Of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the 2030 Agenda, SDG7, which refers to affordable and clean energy, is the one that is making the greatest progress, according to the latest report by the United Nations Economic and Social Council. However, with a third of the time left to complete the 2030 Agenda already gone, the UN warns of the difficulty in meeting the goals set and is concerned about it. For this reason, today we are telling you about the fourth pillar of our Sustainability Commitment: Working together for a sustainable and cohesive society.
Former Unilever CEO and member of the UN secretary general’s high-level panel, Paul Polman, states: “Humanity has the choice of travelling down the route of disunity, or adopting the path of global solidarity. Disunity prolongs the crisis and results in even worse catastrophes. Global solidarity will be the victory against all current and future epidemics and crises that might assail humankind in the 21st century.”
Polman, one of the world’s most reputable business leaders and a staunch advocate of the SDGs, believes that it is wrong to pose a dichotomy between choosing economic growth or sustainability. In his opinion, both concepts go hand in hand, and, to this end, he argues that working together and in alignment is the way to achieve a better, cohesive society.
The fourth strategic axis pillar of Banco Sabadell’s Sustainability Commitment is precisely about working together to build a sustainable and cohesive society. Our entity advocates for responsible and ethical management, fostering volunteering, education, financial inclusion and philanthropy. Said management should pay special attention to accompanying customers in vulnerable situations, who are part of social housing management and employability programmes, and it should be committed to data privacy and cybersecurity.
Our entity’s social impact goes above and beyond that thanks to the Banco Sabadell Foundation, which fosters awareness, training and research activities within the educational, scientific and cultural spheres and encourages young talent to achieve a more prosperous and hopeful future. In short, Banco Sabadell takes action to help ensure that the society of tomorrow continues to evolve and improve.
What commitments does Banco Sabadell undertake when working together for a sustainable and cohesive society?
Five commitments are prioritised:
- Fostering financial literacy and inclusion.
- Accompanying customers in vulnerable situations.
- Fostering corporate volunteering and philanthropy.
- Fostering culture and talent by fostering education and research through the Banco Sabadell Foundation.
- Ensuring the privacy and security of personal data and transactions.
We have learned about four axes by now:
- Becoming a more sustainable bank.
- Supporting customers in the transition towards a sustainable economy.
- Providing investment opportunities that contribute to sustainability.
- Working together for a sustainable and cohesive society.
The five commitments of the fourth axis present concrete objectives that you can view here.
