Banco Sabadell has begun issuing corporate debit cards featuring Mastercard’s ‘Sustainable Cards’ certification – the so-called “eco-badge” – which underpins its commitment to environmental sustainability. These cards are made from recycled PVC, which not only helps to reduce plastic waste but also minimises the consumption of energy and materials during their production.
Furthermore, by using recycled materials, the carbon footprint associated with their manufacture is reduced, thereby minimising the environmental impact. Through this initiative, Banco Sabadell and Mastercard demonstrate their commitment to protecting the environment and to responsible business practices.
Carlos Ventura, General Manager and Business Banking and Network Director at Banco Sabadell, stated that these cards “are designed to make it easier for businesses to manage their payments and transactions by offering the best solutions for day-to-day operations, while also promoting sustainability through an innovative design, with the option for customers to personalise them”. “Payment methods are a critical aspect of our relationship with our customers, where efficiency and speed are key to success”, he emphasised.
Paloma Real, General Manager of Mastercard Spain, pointed out that “this agreement forms part of Mastercard’s commitment to society and the environment, with a view to working together to achieve the sustainable development of the Spanish economy. Banco Sabadell’s business banking customers will not only have access to sustainable cards and a host of exclusive benefits, but will also benefit from Mastercard technology and have at their fingertips the most innovative tools to make their payments simpler, faster and more secure”.
In 2021, Banco Sabadell became the first bank in Spain to join the Priceless Planet Coalition, an initiative launched by Mastercard, Conservation International and the World Resources Institute, which aims to replant 100 million trees.

Furthermore, these new cards include travel accident insurance covering up to 120,000 euros, providing peace of mind for cardholders during their trips. For greater accessibility, the cards are made available through various accounts for self-employed workers and businesses, highlighting Banco Sabadell’s commitment to providing accessible and cost-effective financial solutions for companies of all sizes.
