Banco Sabadell continues to take steps to embed sustainability as a structural pillar of its business model, with the launch of Sabadell’s Commitment to Sustainability 2030, a framework that defines the Group’s roadmap for the coming years and fortifies the link between economic performance, responsible management, and social and environmental contributions.
The Bank aims to mobilise 90 billion euros in sustainable financing solutions between 2026 and 2030, reinforcing its role as a financial institution that offers support for the transition towards a more sustainable economy.
An action framework embedded into the business model
The new commitment lays down 20 targets for 2030, aligned with the Institution’s Strategic Plan and with the main international standards, which are structured around three core pillars: progress as a sustainable institution, support customers and investors in their transition to a sustainable economy, and contribute to a more inclusive and cohesive society.
Carlos Ventura, General Manager and Business Banking Director of Banco Sabadell, indicated that “the point is to support customers in their transition, offering expert advice and solutions adapted to each sector, which can turn sustainability into a competitive advantage”, after adding that “the goal is to mobilise a total of 90 billion euros by 2030”.
Sonia Quibus, General Manager and People & Sustainability Director of Banco Sabadell, explained that “over the past few years the Bank has taken a huge step forward, embedding ESG principles into its strategy and the way in which we generate value. This is the solid foundation on which we have built Sabadell’s Commitment to Sustainability 2030: a more ambitious roadmap that combines competitiveness and accountability to create long-lasting value for people, companies and the planet”.
Quibus emphasised that “this is how we at Banco Sabadell are progressing to become an exemplary sustainable organisation, reducing our environmental footprint, fostering diversity and enhancing our ethical and responsible management. We have embedded ESG criteria into our corporate culture, our processes and our governance, with clear commitments”.
Cristobal Paredes, General Manager and Corporate Banking Director, signalled that “we support our customers as they transition towards more sustainable models and, more specifically, we help the more emissions-intensive sectors to decarbonise, combining specialist advice with sustainable finance.”
Sonia Mulero, Director of the Banco Sabadell Foundation, further noted that the commitment to a more cohesive society “is an essential part of our avenue for progress. That is why the work that we do to promote young talent, with initiatives in the fields of research, education, culture and the arts, as well as the increasing involvement of those at the Bank in volunteering programmes, all combines to create real opportunities”.
Sustainable mobilisation and support for customers
When it comes to customers and investors, Banco Sabadell aims to mobilise 90 billion euros in sustainable financing solutions between 2026 and 2030, reinforcing its role as an institution that offers financial support for the transition to a more competitive and low-emissions economy.
The Bank will continue working to decarbonise emissions-intensive sectors, with specific pathways for 11 key industries, and to define new interim targets for 2035, in line with its commitment to reaching net-zero by 2050.
The Bank’s goal is to continue expanding its suite of sustainable solutions, and it also aspires to keep more than 80% of its assets under management invested in sustainability funds, as defined in Articles 8 and 9 of the Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR).
This approach hinges on a comprehensive model that combines finance and specialist advice to make it easier for SMEs and corporates to gradually embed sustainability into their activities.
Social financing and digitalisation
Under the broader target of mobilising sustainable finance, the framework includes the commitment to channel 10 billion euros of social financing between 2026 and 2030 into initiatives linked to social development and financial inclusion.
Banco Sabadell will also continue to promote digitalisation as a lever to facilitate informed decision-making and more efficient processes, aiming to have 60% of new retail customers onboarded through 100% digital channels by 2030.
Long-term responsible management
In its internal dimension, Banco Sabadell reaffirms its commitment to responsible management, coming closer to neutrality in its own emissions and reinforcing its in-house diversity, talent and governance. Its targets include having 40% of management positions held by women and keeping the adjusted average pay gap below 3%.
This will all be achieved by strengthening best practice in the areas of responsible taxation, ethics, transparency, and ESG evaluations in the supply chain.
Social contribution and commitment to the environment
The final piece of Banco Sabadell’s vision of sustainability is its resolve to achieve social cohesion, through programmes involving financial education, corporate volunteering, affordable housing and cybersecurity, and through its support for talent, research and culture. The Bank’s targets for 2030 include providing finance for 7,000 affordable properties, reaching 80,000 beneficiaries of talent programmes, and continuing to receive outstanding reviews from the main international cybersecurity rating agencies.
With Sabadell’s Commitment to Sustainability 2030, the Institution has enhanced its growth model, combining competitiveness, accountability and a long-term vision to contribute to the economic and social progress of people and firms.
