Banco Sabadell and Sabadell Asset Management – Amundi Group, through the fund Fondo Sabadell Inversión Ética y Solidaria FI, allocated a total of €341,897 to 24 charitable projects driven by third-sector entities in Spain, which carry out initiatives both domestically and through international cooperation programmes in Togo, El Salvador, Tanzania or the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This amount entails a 45% increase compared with the previous edition, in which €234,704 was allocated.

The initiatives selected encompass diverse areas such as employability and social inclusion, health, education, infrastructure, nutrition and lifestyles, humanitarian emergency response and vulnerable communities.
The ceremony, held at the Banco Sabadell’s corporate centre in Madrid, featured José Manuel Candela, Assistant General Manager and Head of Banco Sabadell’s Central Territorial Division; José Antonio Pérez, Sabadell Asset Management CIO; José Luis Montesino-Espartero, Head of Institutional Business at Banco Sabadell; and María del Mar Pageo, President of the Spanish Red Cross. The General Manager of Fundación Unoentrecienmil, Elena Huarte-Mendicoa, and the head of Fundación Benito Menni, María Rosa Izquierdo, also spoke during the event. The ceremony was emceed by Santiago Portas, National Manager of the Religious Institutions and Third Sector Segment at Banco Sabadell.
Diversity of projects and beneficiaries
The initiatives notably include the support program for hospitalised children of Asociación Mamás en Acción; the project from Fundación Unoentrecienmil that encourages physical exercise as a non-pharmacological therapy for children with cancer; the construction of classrooms in DR Congo by Manos Unidas; the intervention of Fundación Benito Menni in Togo for the comprehensive care of people with mental health and neurological conditions who are chained up in the prayer camp known as “La Ciudad de los Olvidados” (The City of the Forgotten); or the training and prevention of early school leaving programme of Fundación Exit.
In addition to this wide variety of projects, the fund has focused on particularly vulnerable groups: people at risk of social exclusion – this year’s main beneficiary group –, as well as children, women, young people, the elderly, people with functional diversity and those affected by serious illnesses. This broad scope reflects the fund's commitment to addressing a wide variety of social realities, both in Spain and in developing countries.
Commitment to responsible investment
During his speech, José Manuel Candela noted that “this fund’s capacity to transform financial resources into real opportunities for those who need them the most. It is a clear example of how responsible investment can go hand in hand with solidarity, reinforcing our commitment as an institution to society and the most vulnerable groups”.
Meanwhile, José Antonio Pérez highlighted that “this fund represents the essence of what responsible investment is: combining profitability with social commitment. It is a key project for Sabadell Asset Management and Amundi Group, which inspires us to further develop a finance model capable of transforming realities and generating a more inclusive future”.
Santiago Portas, the ceremony’s emcee, emphasised the importance of collaboration between third-sector entities and the production fabric to efficiently address social challenges. “The increase in relationship managers within the Bank's branch network through seven new specialised units established this year for the religious institutions and the third sector segment” is also worthy of note. In the same vein, José Luis Montesino-Espartero underscored “the virtuous dual purpose of our ethical and charitable fund where participants invest in a sound fund, while demonstrating solidarity by helping to improve the living conditions of many people”.
In representation of the beneficiary entities, Elena Huarte-Mendicoa (Fundación Unoentrecienmil) thanked all the support received, underscoring “the complementarity and enormous scope at the social action level that this project provides the sector with a holistic view capable of maximising impact”. “We thank Sabadell for its commitment to research, innovation, and technology at the service of public health”, she emphasised.
María Rosa Izquierdo (Fundación Benito Menni), for her part, noted that “at Fundación Benito Menni, we work every day to improve the mental health of people with mental or physical disabilities and other socially excluded individuals in impoverished countries, so we extremely value your trust and commitment to our cause. My deepest appreciation for the generosity of the Corporate Ethics Committee and Fondo de Inversión Ética y Solidaria for the contribution to Fundación Benito Menni and to the other entities represented here today”.
Lastly, María del Mar Pageo (Spanish Red Cross) highlighted the importance of good relationships between businesses and the third sector and thanked Banco Sabadell for “its 20 years of commitment to organisations. These partnerships help build a better and fairer society”.
Impact that grows year after year
Since 2006, Banco Sabadell has been promoting an ethical and charitable initiative that was solidified in 2008 with the creation of the fund Fondo Sabadell Inversión Ética y Solidaria FI. Since then, the fund has channelled over €3.6 million to 272 projects in more than thirty countries, impacting the lives of over 226,000 people belonging to vulnerable groups: children, women, people at risk of social exclusion, the elderly, those affected by illnesses or natural disasters.
This pioneering fund, created by Banco Sabadell and managed by Sabadell Asset Management – Amundi Group, is characterised by integrating financial, ethical and environmental criteria into its investment decisions. A percentage of the management fees is donated directly to charitable projects, which makes it a unique mechanism to channel private investment into high social impact actions.
Thanks to this philosophy, it directly contributes to the attainment of 10 UN Sustainable Development Goals: no poverty (SDG 1), zero hunger (SDG 2), good health and well-being (SDG 3), quality education (SDG 4), gender equality (SDG 5), clean water and sanitation (SDG 6), decent work and economic growth (SDG 8), reduced inequalities (SDG 10), sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11), and peace, justice and strong institutions (SDG 16).
